Welcome to the 2010
Golf season
On behalf of the Norfolk County Commissioners, I want to welcome everyone to the 2010 golf season at the President's Golf course.
The good news this year is that we survived the economic tsunami that has occurred in the last year and a half. Our rounds played actually grew slightly in 2009 in spite of over twenty days of rain in the month of June, three weekend rain-outs in the month of October, and the worse economic downturn in a generation.
This winter, with the help of the Norfolk County Maintenance Department, we continued improving our clubhouse. The men’s locker room is being renovated with a new bathroom, showers, and ceiling. A new ceiling was also installed in the Pro Shop over the winter. I want to extend special thanks to John McGowan, Superintendent of Buildings and his staff, Joe Feeney, George Balis, Scott Bernard, and Mike Ostman for all the good work they have done at our clubhouse building over the past few years.
We are excited about continuing our bunker renovation and improvement program later this spring. We now have funding to complete work on the 13th green site. The right hand bunkers will be re-built and mounded to provide a view of those hazards from the tee. At the rear left of the green, mounds will be added to provide better depth perception and the golf car path will be re-surfaced.
As we prepare our FY 2011 budget, which begins July 1, 2010, we have included plans to renovate the 10th green site and 11th tee. Plans include re-routing the golf car path behind the green, significant drainage improvements, new bunkering, and re-building #11 tee.
Chris Carr and his staff at the View Restaurant and Tavern have been busy this winter planning both physical and operational improvements for the up-coming season. We certainly welcome them back for 2010.
I would like to wish everyone a successful and wonderful 2010 golf season.
